U11s Group Winners at Defender Premiership Cup

The U11s had a weekend to remember this week as they competed in the prestigious Defender Premiership Cup, hosted by Northampton Saints at Franklin Gardens. (see more photo's in links at bottom of article)

With 25 teams from across the region and nationwide participating, including Championship clubs, it was an incredible opportunity for our young Marauders to test themselves against some top-tier competition.

Although there were understandable nerves beforehand the boys and girls more than rose to the occasion and would prove to be a formidable side that went on to be unbeaten and dominate their group.

4 wins and 2 draws from six games was a just reward for their teamwork, technique and resilience with an exceptional win against Ampthill RFC perhaps the standout result. However the most telling stat was that Mistley conceded only 1 try across all six matches showing incredible discipline and determination in defence.

This was a result built on real teamwork with every member of the squad contributing to the team’s success. Beyond their performance on the field, throughout the day, Mistley U11s attitude, respect and sportsmanship was something that they, and the dozens of families members who came to support them, can be truly proud of.

After the tournament had concluded, the boys and girls had the special treat of watching the Northampton Saints take on Exeter Chiefs in what would be a thrilling 33-33 draw.

As one of the four Group Winners our young Marauders were asked to go onto the pitch before kick off and be a part of the team presentations. Then, along with all other teams from the mornings tournament, they all paraded round the pitch during half time.

An amazing experience and hopefully one they will never forget, the U11s did Mistley proud and lived our values Spirit, Passion, Strength.
